Something extraordinary, and beautiful, and simple

Desejos apaixonados geram obras apaixonantes. A carta abaixo é de Julho de 1922, pelo que o romance a que Scott Fitzgerald se refere será certamente O Grande Gatsby, que é actualmente a minha leitura de cabeceira. Considerada o grande romance americano, esta crítica aos loucos anos vinte americanos e à American way of life que nos anos seguintes invadiria a Europa, tem-me levado a reflectir acerca da decadência, moral e material, que nasce e se instala em toda a época de prosperidade. É um clássico que se arrisca a tornar-se um dos meus livros.

Will you see that the semi-yearly account is mailed to me by the 1st of the month — or before if it is ready? I want to see where I stand. I want to write something new — something extraordinary and beautiful and simple & intricately patterned.
